Officials believe that the blaze triggered the release of combustible gases, resulting in a violent ignition known to English-speaking firefighters as a flashover or backdraft.

Another witness, speaking to BFMTV, described the harrowing scenes of people smashing windows to escape the blaze, some gravely injured. Panicked parents rushed to the scene in their cars, desperate to know if their children were trapped inside. The young man who witnessed the tragedy likened it to a horror movie, with around 20 people scrambling to escape the smoke and flames.
