Hillsboro Hops Unveil 2026 Coaching Lineup: A Blend of Experience and Fresh Talent
The Hillsboro Hops have announced their coaching staff for the 2026 season, marking a pivotal moment in the team's journey. This lineup features a mix of seasoned professionals and newcomers, each bringing unique expertise to the field.
At the helm is Mark Reed, who returns for his second season as the Hops' manager. Reed's managerial debut last season resulted in a 60-71 record, showcasing his ability to lead and strategize. Before his coaching career, Reed was a standout player, drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 2004 MLB Draft. He played nine seasons in the minor leagues, gaining valuable experience and insights.
The coaching staff also includes Jim Adduci, a hitting coach with a rich background. Adduci played in the MLB for the Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers, and Chicago Cubs, accumulating over 500 career games. His hitting prowess was further showcased in the Korean Baseball League, where he hit 28 home runs for the Lotte Giants in 2015. Adduci's coaching career began with the Cubs, where he honed his skills before joining the Hillsboro staff.
Gift Ngoepe, a native of Randburg, South Africa, will make his Hillsboro debut in 2026. Ngoepe's MLB debut in 2017 made history as the first South African and native of Continental Africa to achieve this feat. He has since played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Toronto Blue Jays, gaining valuable experience. Ngoepe's coaching career began with the Arizona Complex League and continued with the Visalia Rawhide in 2025.
Blake Nation, a former Seattle Mariners draft pick, completes the coaching trio. Nation's professional coaching journey began after a decade of coaching in college. He joins the Arizona Diamondbacks after three seasons in the Milwaukee Brewers minor league system, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team.
