The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) is on the lookout for passionate individuals to join their ranks as state conservation officers. This exciting announcement marks the opening of applications for 53 entry-level positions starting January 3rd.
These new recruits will play a crucial role within the DLNR’s Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement, commonly known as DOCARE. Chief Jason Redulla expressed the importance of this role by stating, “Protecting Hawaii’s natural, cultural, historical, and recreational resources is a unique privilege.” He added that interest in these essential positions has always been high, thanks to Hawaii’s dynamic work environment and the limited number of openings available, ensuring that this trend is likely to continue.
But here's where it gets controversial... The state has several vacancies across various locations in Hawaii, which means there are plenty of opportunities for those eager to make a difference in preserving the island's unique ecosystems.
The roles of Conservation and Resources Enforcement Officers are designed as full-time, permanent civil service positions. Redulla elaborated on the scope of their responsibilities, saying, “Our area of responsibility is vast and spans from mauka to makai, and three miles out to sea. There’s no shortage of work to be done, and we look forward to increasing our ranks with dedicated people.”

* A minimum age of 21 at the time of applying

* Compliance with both federal and state firearms regulations
* The ability to swim 100 meters in under three minutes
