Get ready for a game-changer in the swimming world! The American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) is making waves with a strategic expansion of its team, bringing on board three powerhouse professionals. But here's where it gets exciting: these new hires aren't just any ordinary additions; they're respected leaders in the swimming community, each bringing a unique skill set to the table.
First up, we have Mariejo "MJ" Truex, who joins ASCA as the Director of Programs and Events. With three decades of experience under her belt, MJ is a strategic powerhouse, focusing on people and program development. Her work at USA Swimming speaks volumes, having managed an extensive portfolio of services for thousands of coaches, teams, and local swim committees. MJ's initiatives, such as the launch of USA Swimming University, have enhanced member engagement and satisfaction, and her expertise in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives is a huge plus.
Next, we welcome Sarah Winstead, the new Membership Development Manager. A former Division I swimmer and club swimmer in Atlanta, Sarah brings a strong background in membership-focused communications and digital strategy. Her experience in private club membership management and university admissions marketing is a perfect fit for ASCA's goals of expanding its reach and keeping members informed and engaged.
And last but certainly not least, Dan McCarthy joins ASCA as the Coach Education Consultant. With two decades of experience at USA Swimming, including his recent role as Director of Coach Education, Dan has led professional development initiatives for thousands of coaches and overseen education and certification systems. He also played a key role in developing USA Swimming University, an award-winning learning platform. Dan's expertise in data-driven program development and professional learning will be a huge asset to ASCA.
But the expansion doesn't stop there! ASCA is also growing its existing team, with world-renowned stroke technique expert Russell Mark working on innovative education offerings, such as the ASCA Technique Pod and Stroke Lab Live webinar series. Additionally, veteran staff member Dr. Ariel Hodges, PhD, has taken on expanded operational responsibilities, now serving as the Director of Online Education and Operations.
"This expansion is a direct result of the strategic leadership of our Board of Directors," said Bill Dorenkott, ASCA President and Head Coach at Ohio State University. "By investing in people and programs, we're strengthening the support system for coaches and helping shape the future of our sport."
And this is the part most people miss: ASCA's expansion comes during a period of transformation for the organization. Over the past year, ASCA has expanded its regional clinics and collaborated with LSCs across the country. Looking ahead, ASCA's priorities include updating its Certification Program, enhancing digital education, expanding social media engagement, and collaborating with USA Swimming to support coaches entering the profession.
So, what do you think? Are you excited about ASCA's future and the impact these new hires will have? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
